Search the name and you'll get a few different things: Alexander Steinert, the 19th-century German engineer; the Steinert High School boys baseball team in New Jersey; and the magnetic separation equipment company that's been building sorting systems for mining and recycling since 1889.

I'm a procurement manager at a regional metal recycling operation. For the last six years, I've tracked every dollar we spend on sorting machinery: invoices, spare parts, downtime events, all of it. Three things determine which machine is right for you: your feed consistency, your downtime cost, and your tolerance for being ignored after the sale.
If your feed is consistent—say you're separating aluminum from one industrial source, and the material doesn't change—the recovery gap narrows. A budget machine might be fine.
If your feed is variable, like ours, do the math before you sign: take 5% of your annual recovered value and see if that number is bigger than the price difference. For us, it was.
If you're a small operator, don't assume a big German manufacturer won't take you seriously. Our purchase wasn't huge by industry standards, and they treated us like a flagship account. The budget supplier treated us like a transaction that had already closed.
The most expensive purchase in the world is the machine that doesn't pay for itself because it's down, or because it quietly loses value you never see. I learned that twice, with my own budget, in my own spreadsheet.
